I am writing to find out more about licorice root as an anti-inflammatory. I have very bad TMJ and suffer horribly. I now have arthritis in the joints as well. I am currently breastfeeding my baby and wondered if it is safe to take Licorice root. Or what else you might recommend for this type of ailment that is safe to take while breastfeeding.

Licorice is not recommended during breastfeeding because it has hormonal action and may affect the production of milk. Valerian and Chamomile would be a good, safe combination to relieve pain, spasms and tension, relax the nerves and reduce inflammation.
