I am interested in the herb "bilberry". I am a diabetic and have problems with my eyes. What does this herb offer in my situation?

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is usually recommended in diabetes to prevent deterioration of eyesight. Bilberry improves blood circulation by inhibiting platelet aggregation. Content of the antioxidant anthocyanadin in bilberries (also in blueberries, cherries, grapes, cranberries and other dark red or blue fruit) protects the blood vessels in the eyes from damage. Bilberry strengthens blood vessels.

People with diabetes are likely to develop retinopathy, a degeneration in the blood vessels of the retina. Next to good blood sugar management and good blood pressure control, regularly taking bilberries, or their relative blueberries, is the most important therapy for prevention and for improvement once you have retinopathy. Take 1/2 cup daily.
