Blood vessel health and Brain circulation

I would like to know if there is anything that can keep the brain clean and alert, and keep the stems around the brain in good working order.

I would also like to know the natural way of ridding cholesterol from the arteries.

I have never had a problem with it until the summer of 2003 where I was eating shrimp like mad – I mean like mad – at a restaurant here that fixed them many different ways. Now I’m paying the price for it. I don’t quite believe in taking that strong medication.

I do make my own juices, like broccoli, carrot, celery, cucumber etc. and now I am staying away from shrimp.

Please let me know what I can do with herbs to rid this from my system.

I suggest that you visit with a natural practitioner suh as a medical herbalist or naturopath about your reaction to shrimp. Because this appears to have initiated your problem, inflammation in the blood vessels may be a more important factor than cholesterol. Digestive problems and other food sensitivities may be contributing to the problem.

Daily omega-3 fatty acids support blood circulation to the brain. Omega-3 oils, high in fish, walnuts, freshly ground flax seed, flax oil and hemp oil, decrease inflammation and decrease the risk of blood clotting. Because of your apparent shrimp allergy, you may need to avoid fish and fish oils. High consumption of fats in meat and omega-6 oils (sunflower, safflower and corn oils and products such as salad dressings and mayonnaise made from these oils) throws off the balance of omega-3 oils, so these should be minimized.

Onions, garlic, olive oil, blueberries (and other dark red and blueberries) are good foods for circulation. Garlic is highly recommended as a platelet inhibitor and for effecting a decrease in blood lipids and cholesterol; Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries strengthen and repair blood vessels and help keep the blood from clotting.

Ginger is antiinflammatory and supports blood circulation. Ginger can be used regulalry in juicing and cooking and taken as a tea by simmering about an inch of chopped root in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes. Stinging nettle detoxifies and supports blood circulation. It can be taken daily as a tea by steeping 2 tablespoons of the dried herb in a cup of water for 15 to 30 minutes.

For information on brain health, including the importance of healthy blood vessels, please see our web site at www.richters.com, choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then enter the word "memory". Here you will find information on the importance of maintaining a healthy blood flow to the brain by keeping the arteries free from fatty substances that can accumulate on the blood vessels, impeding blood flow.

For information on cholesterol, please repeat the search, entering the word "cholesterol".
