Please tell me if licorice root is a good remedy for stomach problems and indigestion.

Yes, licorice root is helpful as a digestive remedy. Its actions for these purposes include: anti-inflammatory, soothing, liver protective, anti-ulcer, increases digestive juices, mild laxative. It is used in stomach and intestinal ulcers, and in inflamed stomach.

Licorice should not be taken in pregnancy or in liver cirrhosis. Long term, high doses can cause high blood pressure by reducing potassium levels in the blood. It should be taken for a short term only, to heal the disorder. Long term or higher than normal doses should only be taken under the direction of a qualified natural practitioner. The average dose is 1 to 5 grams, three times daily before meals.
