Shrubby St John’s Wort (Hypericum prolificum): Is it Medicinal?

I have the shrubby St. John’s Wort (Hypericum prolificum). Are the medicinal properties of this plant the same as the Hypericum perforatum?

This species did not turn up in any of the databases that I consulted, including Medline, Daniel Moerman’s Native American Ethnobotany database, and Jim Duke’s various databases.

There are almost 2000 known species and varieties of Hypericum, so it is not surprising that nothing turned up on this one. This doesn’t mean that your plant doesn’t have medicinal properties, only that its properties are not yet known.
