I am an epileptic. I take 1750 mg of depakote and 60 mg of phenobarbital daily. Depakote can be hard on the liver. What kind of herbs can I take to help cleanse the liver that won’t interact with my medication? I don’t know if this helps but I have hayfever so antihistamines are necessary and I’m on ovcon-35 for regulation not birth control.

There are herbs that are sometimes recommended to protect the liver against the side effects of drugs. There is a possibility that these herbs would affect the action of the drugs you are taking, so I cannot recommend them.

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is the best known herb for protection of the liver and regeneration of liver cells. I have not seen any studies on the interaction of milk thistle with depakote. You should not take this herb until you have found scientific studies showing that there is no effect on the action of your drugs, and you have discussed these studies with your doctor.
