Painful Bowel Movements

Every time I have a bowel movement, it hurts so bad and burns. It’s like i’m having a baby every day of my life! It makes me scared to have to go to the bathroom. Are there any herbs that could help me?

First, it is important to consult with your doctor to eliminate the possibility of bowel inflammation.

Next, examine your diet and the amount of water that you consume daily. Dairy products are often the cause of constipation. Consuming at least 8 cups of water a day helps to soften the stool. The fibre in fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains provide bulk to soften the stool. Avoid all processed grains such as products made from white flour.

If you still need help after you have consulted with your doctor and implemented the above dietary recommendations, you may want to use psyllium seeds to help bulk your stool. These are available in health food stores. Once a day, stir one tablespoon of the seeds into an 8 ounce glass of water. Follow this immediately with another glass of water. This ensures that the seeds are well enough lubricated to bulk up the stool. If you don’t take enough water, the stool will become hard and difficult to pass.
