I have had diabetes for 40 years. I am currently dealing with gangrene of my great toe on my right foot. I am taking supplements. I have had Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments that have helped increase the blood flow to my feet of which was very minimal which is the reason I developed gangrene. Can you advise me on what supplements you would suggest would help my toe heal more quickly? It has been 8 months since the onset of this problem. Thank you.

Thomas Bartram, in "Bartram’s Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (available at Richters) states that Thuja (Thuja occidentalis) and Echinacea make a powerful combination in diabetic gangrene. Internally, Echinacea strengthens resistance to infection. Thuja exerts a positive effect in any tissue degeneration. Externally, these herbs break down the odour and stimulate the growth of healthy tissue.

Bartram also suggests abundant teas of linden flowers (Tilia cordata) and nettles to support blood circulation to the peripheries.
