I was wondering if it is okay to put garlic and oil in my baby’s ears when when he has an ear infection? I don’t trust the medication they give out for this.

Yes, you can use garlic oil in a baby’s ears to treat infection. You should always consult your doctor about ear infections to avoid taking a risk with your baby’s hearing. Ear pain can be a symptom of a problem outside the ear, such as pressure from sinus, nasal congestion, serious inner ear inflammation or infection in the brain and spinal areas.

A garlic capsule may be broken and a drop of oil dropped into each ear or you can make ear drops by soaking a well cleaned, crushed garlic clove in extra-virgin olive oil, straining very thoroughly and carefully using fine cheesecloth or a clean dishtowel. Store in a glass container with a tightly fitting lid in the refrigerator for no more than 3 days.

The ear should then be kept dry and covered with cotton wool.

If your baby is suffering from ear aches often, and you are not breastfeeding, you should check into allergies as a cause. Cow’s milk commonly causes ear infections in babies and young children.
