Please tell me what is the herbal cure for clostridium difficile.

Clostridium difficile is a gram negative bacteria that causes diarrhea and other gastrointestinal upsets and diseases such as bloating, constipation and flu like symptoms. Herbs that are effective against gram negative bacteria are: garlic (Allium sativum), wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), cayenne (Capsicum minimum), caraway (Carum carvi), coriander (Coriandrum sativum), gentian (Gentiana lutea), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis), thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

Some herbal actions that may be indicated for such a gastrointestinal Infection would be:

Anti-microbials - will help the immune system combat the bacterial infection - see above

Anti-inflammatories - meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), chickweed (Stellaria media), plantain (Plantago spp.)

Diaphoretic - help with the symptoms of feverishness and support the body cope with the raised temperature: yarrow (Achillea millifoium), catnip (Nepeta cataria), elderflower (Sambucus canadensis)

Anti-nauseates - peppermint (Mentha piperita), ginger root (Zingiber officinale)

Astringents - to change the terrain and to help tone the gut lining and reduce diarrhea; meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), oak bark (Quercus spp.), bramble roots (Rubus spp. radix)

Bitters - help deal with the debility that often follows such infections as well as help tone the lining

Sample Formula (equal parts):

Hydrastis canadensis
Echinacea spp.
Filipendula ulmaria
Mentha piperita
Dosage: 1-5mls of tincture taken every 2 hours

These herbs supply the following actions:

Anti-microbials - Hydrastis canadensis, Echinacea spp.
Anti-nauseate - Mentha piperita
Anti-inflammatory - Filipendula ulmaria
Astringent - Hydrastis canadensis, Filipendula ulmaria
Bitters - Hydrastis canadensis,

Probiotics are also part of a treatment program as well and prevention program.
