Herbs Suitable as Fodder Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Elaine Webb Posted on: April 6, 1998
I would like to know which herbs are best for livestock fodder. In particular, which are best for sheep? I understand comfrey is good. Which variety would you recommend? Please let me know as soon as possible so I can order for spring planting on Vancouver Island.
The russian comfrey Bocking #4 is excellent for fodder as it is very high in protein. Other plants that make good fodder are red clover S1830, alfalfa S1020, melilot S3970.
