Potted Herb Pot Size

Your site was recommended to me by another Lavender enthusiast, and I can see that she sent me to an excellent source.

I was curious about were the Lavender plants you offer for sale on your site.. I would like to know what size they are at $2.00, and if they come in larger plants and if so at what prices. Where I intend to plant will need more established rooting systems to survive well.

All the plants we ship are shipped in 2-1/2 inch (7 cm) square pots. When customers come to Richters to shop personally, they get 3-1/2 inch (9 cm) pots; but our shipping system can’t handle those bigger pots.

We ship well-rooted plants in 2-1/2 inch and have been doing so for decades with great success. The plants will need care until they are established well in the garden, but the level of care is not much more than with larger size plants. The square pot is equivalent to a larger round pot in terms of soil and root mass; a 2-1/2 inch square pot is the same as a 3 inch round pot.

We have stuck with the smaller size for shipping because shipping costs have become the single largest cost of selling herbs by mailorder. Moving to a larger size would increase shipping fees by 40-50% without much real advantage in the end for the customer.
