Sachet Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia 'Sachet'
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 5-8)
Sourced from Oregon, this variety is adored for its prominent sweet fragrance and beautiful dark purple flowers. One of the more preferred varieties for culinary use. Will bloom in June and again in August or September. Like any other variety, Sachet Lavender must be located in full sun and planted in well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Perfect for borders, rock gardens and containers. After the second year of growth, begin pruning once or twice a year, cutting back a third of its foliage. This will help maintain its shape, leaf and flower production as well as prevent woodyness. Bloom time June-July lasting 3-4 weeks. Height 70cm/28 inches.
