Asclepias incarnata
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 3-8)
When to Sow: Spring/Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Moderate/Special Treatment Required
(Rose milkweed) A magnet for monarch butterflies! Beautiful milkweed found throughout Eastern and Central North America. The showy carmine-rose flowers have a vanilla scent that is truly divine! The Chippewa and Iroquois used an infusion of the roots as a strengthening bath for the weak and sickly. In the wild it prefers moist or wet areas but it adapts well to gardens, and few garden plants are as tolerant of heavy clay soils as this. Deer-resistant. Low maintenance. Ht. 60-150cm/2-5ft.
