Long-lived shrubby perennial with blue-grey leaves with a silver cast. Common in the dry plains and slopes of the American West. Strong pungent fragrance. Likely because of its antiseptic properties, it was used by Native Americans like other sagebrushes to treat colds, diarrhea and sore eyes. Very tolerant of drought and a good plant for xeriscaping. Requires well-drained soil but prefers low fertility. Ht. 30-90cm/1-3ft.
