Nutmeg Thyme
Thymus praecox articus
Uses:
Culinary/Medicinal/Beverage/Aromatic
Duration:
Perennial
(hardy in zones 5-9)
Nutmeg, the delightful fragrance that brings the mind to think of pumpkin pie, egg nog and home cooked meals. This is a mat forming, creeping variety with nutmeg scented leaves and decorated in an abundance of tiny mauve-lilac flowers that make this variety especially eye catching and irresistible to pollinators. Makes a great groundcover as it can withstand foot traffic but is also a perfect choice for rock gardens or grown along walkways and between flagstones. Plant in sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Thyme is typically low maintenance, but will need to be pruned to encourage a bushy growth. Sensitive to over watering, as thyme is susceptible to fungal diseases and root rot. Can be used for cooking or dried and brewed in a tea. Ht 2-4inches.
