(Spilanthes) Known as akarkara in India this herb is widely used as medicine and for food. The leaves produce a tingling sensation when eaten fresh like cress. The leaves have a mild anesthetizing effect and are useful for treating toothaches and sore gums. Akarkara is also a powerful aphrodisiac traditionally recommended for men who are losing interest in sex or are suffering from poor sexual performance. Recent animal studies have confirmed that akarkara improves penile erection and sexual desire, and that the improvement persists for weeks after treatment. The same studies showed that testosterone levels rise significantly with treatment. Our strain is from India where it is commonly grown commercially for Ayurvedic medicines. The yellow button flowers are fun to add to salads for a nice "electric" tingling effect.
