When to Sow:
Ease of Germination:
A member of the teasel family, this beautiful ornamental annual, is striking for its unusual globe shaped flower heads composed by delicate papery cup-like calyces. Varieties in the
genus have been used widely in traditional medicine, as they are packed with bioactive compounds. Fascinating new 2018 research has demonstrated the antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase and cytotoxic activity the extracts hold. Makes great fresh and dry flower arrangements, typically lasting about 8-10 days in a vase, turning bronze when dried. Prefers neutral to alkaline well drained soil and full sun. Will bloom prolifically, especially when flower heads are cut regularly. Germination 10-12 days. Height 28-36 inches.
