Alchornea cordifolia
Uses: Medicinal
(Christmas bush; Avovlo) African shrub or small tree with a growing reputation for its antimicrobial properties. This herb is recommended by American herbalist Stephen Buhner for the treatment of babesia, a malaria-like disease caused by a parasite carried by the same deer tick that spreads Lyme disease. It is also recommended for certain drug-resistant bacteria. In Africa, alcornea has a wide spectrum of traditional uses and an almost panacea-like reputation. Used for pain, inflammatory disorders, respiratory and intestinal problems, venereal disease, infertility, jaundice, malaria and more -- and increasingly many of its uses are backed up by modern research. For the treatment of babesia the leaves are taken in a tincture form.
