Provence Blue Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia 'Provence Blue'
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 5-8)
When to Sow: Spring/Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Moderate
Popular in the Provence region of France. Has a more refined fragrance, despite increasing interest in hybrid varieties among French growers. Deep blue flower spikes among silver green leaves. Like any other variety, Provence Blue Lavender must be located in full sun and planted in well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Perfect for borders, rock gardens and containers. After the second year of growth, begin pruning once or twice a year, cutting back a third of its foliage. This will help maintain their shape, leaf and flower production as well as prevent woodyness. Height 50cm/20”.
