Fragrant Butterfly Lavender
L. stoechas pedunculata 'Fragrant Butterfly'
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 8-9)
Ease of Germination: Moderate
Absolutely striking bright magenta flower spikes with matching long bracts common to the French, stoechas group. When mass planted, long wing like bracts appear as though masses of butterflies have gathered in the garden! Like other French varieties, fragrant butterfly is more cold sensitive than the English group, tolerant to hotter climates and typically grown as an annual in North America. Plant in full sun and well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Perfect for borders, rock gardens and containers. Bloom time early as May with a second wave around June followed by a third in late summer or fall. Height 40-45cm/16-18”.
