(Sweet broomweed; Vassourinha) Used throughout the tropics for diabetes! Native of the tropics of Central and South America but now found throughout the world. Wherever it grows it has become an important medicinal herb for diabetes. Recent studies have confirmed its powerful effect on blood glucose levels. It also has potent antiviral, antimalarial and anticancer effects. Used traditionally for hypertension, pain and inflammation, stomach and liver disorders, and for venereal disease. The taste of the leaves is bitter at first but later becomes sweet like licorice, and they can be used to make tea.
