(Rocoto) Manzano chiles are relatives of the hot and spicy rocoto pepper from the Andes in South America. The thick pods are difficult to dry so they are mostly used fresh, and are excellent in hot salsas. Compared to other chiles, this is more resistant to low temperatures and is typically grown at high altitudes. Fruits ripen to a yellow-orange colour. Heat: 12,000 and 30,000 Scoville units.
