Uses: Medicinal Duration: Biennial (hardy in zones 3-8)
When to Sow: Spring/Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Easy
Source of blue dye said to date back to Roman times and was even used as war paint by native Celtic Britons. Very similar to indigo but less concentrated in dye compounds. Still used today as a natural dye! Because its far to bitter & astringent to be consumed, its medicinal use is limited to topical applications for visceral pain and to stop bleeding. A hardy plant that is very easy to grow and thrives in full sun. Will self seed. Ht 3ft.
