Beach Wormwood
Artemisia stelleriana
Uses: Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 4-7)
(Old woman) Native to the east coast of North America, beach wormwood can be found growing naturally on fresh water and coastal sand dunes. This variety has a sprawling, clump forming growth habit which makes a great ground cover. Leaves are softly haired, and silver green. Simple lobed leaves resemble the shape of coral. Flowers extend much taller than the plant, producing composite yellow, chamomile-like flowers. Not to be confused with medicinal varieties, beach wormwood is strictly ornamental and aromatic. Wormwood is frost tolerant; preferring poor, dry soil. Plant in full sun. Ht 1ft; Spread 3-4ft.
