Japanese Black Trifele Tomato
Solanum lycopersicum 'Japanese Black Trifele'
Duration: Annual
When to Sow: Spring Ease of Germination: Easy
Russian heirloom first brought to the West in 1999. The variety name was badly translated and should really be "Japanese Black Truffle". We do not know what the connection to Japan is, but the beautiful dark plump pear-shaped fruits do vaguely resemble chocolate truffles. Regardless of its origin, this is one great tasting, hearty tomato with sweet dense flesh and relatively few seeds. Excellent for fresh use in salads, for salsa, and for canning. Indeterminate habit; needs supports. 100 days.
