Acute Nerve Pain of Unknown Cause

My wife is suffering acute pains from an affliction that causes her nerves throughout her body to flare up in her shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, knees and more. It is especially bad at night when she hurts so much she cannot sleep, crying out constantly. Doctors we have gone to don’t know exactly what she has, and only provide pain relief medications -- and some of these increase the pain. Blood tests are normal. If you have a suggestion of what herbs might be appropriate, please let me know.

Herbs that support the nervous tissue include:

St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) relieves pain and calms nerves. It can be taken as a tea or tincture. Externally, the infused oil is used to relieve pain.

Oats (Avena sativa) nourishes nerve tissue. It can be taken as oatstraw tea, as porridge or as a tincture.

Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) is anti-spasmodic, calming to the nerves and sedative, of value in restoring the nerves. It can be taken as a tea or tincture.

Vitamin B complex supports nervous tissue.

It is important that you purchase good quality herbs. Ask at your health food store for the best quality products.

Also appreciated would be homeopathic doctors you might know about.

I don’t have any information on homeopathic doctors, but you can obtain information on well qualified, experienced herbalists in your area through the American Herbalists Guild http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/. Or you can try the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP): http://www.naturopathic.org.
