Culture Seed density: 200-300 seeds/gram   Exposure: full sun   Soil: well-drained, deep, moderately fertile, pH 7-8.   Crop duration: 2-3 years (florence fennel, 1 year)
      Sowing rate: 4-6kg/ha (direct), 30g/1000plants (indirect).   Planting: sow sweet fennel direct; bronze direct or indirect; florence indirect.   Field spacing: 30-90cm between rows x 15-30cm within rows.   Yield: seed 1000-1600kg/ha (years 2-3), fresh herb 8-10t/ha (year 1-3), dried herb 1.5-2.5t/ha (year 1-3), seed oil 40-75kg/ha.   Pests: aphid, lygus tarnished plant bug   Diseases: sclerotinia stemrot, rhizoctonia damping-off, erwinia soft rot.   Buyers want: not less than 2-4% volatile oil.  
  Sowing rate: 30g/1000plants.   Planting: sow direct in pots or in plugs. Does not transplant well; best to sow direct.   Seeds to saleable plants: 10 weeks.   Seeds to finished plugs: 8 weeks.   Plugs to saleable plants: 3 weeks.   Pests: aphid   Diseases: damping-off.
