Dog and Stroke

My friend’s dog (chelsea) is a golden retriever, 15 years old and has suffered a stroke. She is currently going for accupuncture which seems to help on a minimal scale but the vet also said she may have injured a disc in her lower back as she is having major problems walking. I massage her which also helps. What do you think of soaking a towel in comfrey tea and placing it on her lower back area? Chelsea also has sores on her elbows, feet, and her paws seem to be getting dry and cracking.

Even though Chelsea has suffered a stroke a good, homemade diet will help strengthen her generally and may contribute to her healing. See this website (www.richters.com) for the posting: "Aging Dog with Arthritis" for recipe resources. That posting also contains useful comments regarding supplements and homeopathics. In addition, you could look at using a glycerite of Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s Wort) in her food at 4 ml. twice a day for a 75 lb dog. St. John’s Wort may also be made as a tea (2 tablespoons herb to one half cup boiling water, steep 15 minutes, cool and strain) and applied externally on a clean, cotton cloth to her lower back twice a day, one of those times being after her massage. Let the cloth sit there as long as she will allow it. As for her sores, I would make a tea (same proportions as stated above) of Calendula officinalis (Calendula) again, soaking a clean cotton cloth in the tea and applying it to her sores.
