I have a cute little hound dog named Coco who is about 6 months old. Can you recommend a good website or book for dog-herb combos.

I am also looking for a good antinausea agent as Coco gets sick each time we put her into the car.

Have you found any anthelmintic herbs for dogs to be better then Black walnut?

Do you think garlic is ok for canines?

Unfortunately I do not know of any websites that deal with herbs for dogs. Books might include: Richard Pitcairn’s "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats" and Juliette de Bairacli Levy’s " The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat".

In dealing with nausea, you could try ginger (Zingiber officinalis) in very small doses (1-2 drops in 250 ml of water). If Coco is suffering from motion sickness, you could also try homeopathic Cocculus 6C or 30C, 3 pellets 15 minutes before leaving on your trip (do not touch pellets with your hands).

There are many anthelmintic herbs, some working better than others, depending on the animal and the type of parasite in question. There are many anthelmintic herbs; a few to look at would be: raw Pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo), Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Aloe (Aloe vera), Garlic (Allium sativum) and Thyme (Thymus vulgaris). Black Walnut is a very powerful herb and should be used with caution. I should also mention that if an animal is fed a good, homemade diet, seldom are there problems with parasites.

Garlic is fine for dogs if used in moderation (not excessively or for long periods ata time) and the dog is over 6 months of age. There is a condition that can occur from over-use of garlic called Heinz-body anaemia which has a deleterious affect on red blood cells.
