I have a diabetic cat and an using Devil’s Club to try and reduce the blood sugar. What I would like to know is what is the dose (about a ten pound cat). Is there a point where is can be toxic? I am currently using a mixture of 1ml gemema/1ml cornsilk/1ml Devil’s club. Of that mixture I give .5ml every 8 hours. I am not using insulin at this time and her blood glucose levels haven’t fallen below 361.

Whilst Devil’s Club (Oplopanax horridus) and Gymnema sylvestre have both been employed in cases of human diabetes mellitus, I have not heard of them being used for animals, so cannot comment. All I can say is the liver of the cat is completely different from that of humans (or dogs for that matter) and therefore metabolism and clearance time will be different as well. You are travelling in uncharted territory as far as I know. Good luck!
