Cataracts and Parasites

I wanted to ask you about my older cat and middle-aged dog. My older cat has developed cataracts and her sight is very poor; are there any herbs or minerals that could help her see better?

I also have a middle-aged dog who spends his time outside. I would like to find a treatment for heartworms and other kinds of parasites that do not require chemical medications. Do you know of any? Someone mentioned to me that they thought Angstrom Copper killed parasites, but, I wanted to ask you first.

The overall health of both your cat and dog (and hence their individual concerns) is often strengthened by the consumption of a good, homemade diet. Please see the work of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information and recipes.

To specifically address cataracts, you may want to look at the use of Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) along with Cod liver oil (1/2 teaspoon per day) Vitamin C (125 mg twice a day) and Vitamin E (50 iu once a day), alongside the use of a homemade food as mentioned above.

Regarding heartworm and parasites, you may first want to find out which parasites are actually in your area as every vicinity is different. Please see this website (www.richters.com) for postings entitled, "Dog and Ear Mites", "Dog and Fleas", "Dog and Mosquitoes" and "Herbs for Heartworm". There you should find further information regarding your question.
