Increasing Occurence of Canine Diabetes

I have two sisters, both with dogs suffering from diabetes and requiring insulin injections. I am puzzled about what seems to me a sudden surge of canine diabetes. I am curious to know if this is common, if it is growing, why this is happening, and moreover: What can I suggest to my sisters to help their dogs? Is it curable, or can one "just only" support them?

Your observation of increased diabetes in the Western world is quite correct, both in animals as well as humans. And, as in humans, the responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of modern nutrition as well as a lack of exercise. Your sisters may find that the complications that accompany diabetes may be abated through the use of a good, homemade diet. Please see the work of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information and recipes. Unfortunately, once an animal (or human) is on injected insulin, it cannot be discontinued.
