Indoor Cats Fighting to Get at Outdoor Cats

We were advised by our vet to put some Richter’s Herbs around the perimiter of our house as we have the neighbours outdoor cats spraying and coming around. We have 2 indoor cats who have been fighting to near death once they see the outdoor cats on "their" property! Any suggestions as to how to get rid of the outdoor cats and keep peace in our lovely household?!

This behaviour is very difficult to change as cats are "hard wired" to defend what they see as thier territory, house, yard and inhabitants included. And unfortunately, your neighbour’s cats know that their presence drives your cats crazy. First, have you spoken with your neighbour? Is there any way he or she will keep their cats indoors? Second, you may want to try flower essences on your cats to help calm their reactions. Available at any good health food shop, look for Beech, Vine, Vervain and Holly. Put two drops of each in a 50 ml glass dropper bottle filled with 50 ml of spring water. Add one dropperful of this mixture on each of your cats’ food twice a day. In addition, you may want to look at preparing a good, homemade diet for your cats as non-commercial nutrition often results in calmer, less edgy felines. Please see the work of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" and "Cats Naturally" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information and recipes.
