I have two female guinea pigs, Gia and Gemma, both about two years old, and I was wondering what herbs are most beneficial for maintaining guinea pigs’ overall health & good cheer. Although she is fine now, a year ago Gia had a malignant mammary gland tumor removed. Gemma has never had any health problems.

Unfortunately, I am not an expert in the care and feeding of guinea pigs. However, like all living creatures, their best chance for sustained good health is through a well-chosen diet. As vegetarians they should be receiving a wide variety of vegetables, fruit and grasses. There are some fantastic websites devoted to guinea pigs out there; if you haven’t already try a search like: "guinea pigs" + nutrition. A quick search revealed lists of all types of foods suitable as well as forages such as: Asiatic Dayflower, Chickweed, Cleavers, Dandelion, Early Nut Grass, Oxalis, Wide and Narrow leaved Plantain, White Clover and Yarrow, amongst others. All of the plants your guinea pig would forage if on its own are medicinal. Therefore so as far as this creature is concerned, all food is medicine. If only we looked at nutrition and health the same way! Start your search by going to: www.guinealynx.com __
