Elderly Beagle with Cushings Syndrome

With the dog food scare, I would like to find a home-prepared diet for my 13 yr old beagle with cushings syndrome. He is over-weight, has had his gall bladder removed a couple of years ago, and the cushings medications he was on made him sick, so I opted not to continue them. He is PU/PD, but as spry as he has ever been in his life, so I would like to support him as best I can. Please help with any suggestions you have.

The best books I can recommend on this topic are: Richard Pitcairn’s, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst. I do not believe there is a perfect recipe out there but by reading the books above you should be in a position to understand the ins and outs of homemade diets and make your own choices as to what is right for your dog.
