I am a veterinarian from Costa Rica and I would like to know if I can use Passiflora incarnata for anxiety in dogs instead of valerian drops.

Passiflora incarnata (Passionflower) may certainly be used in dogs; Wynn and Fougere (2007) recommend its employment in cases of "anxiety, nervousness and as an adjunct for treatment of stress due to travel or transportation; seizures." The suggested dose depends on the form in which it is prescribed and on the size of the dog involved: Dried herb: 25-300 mg/kg divided daily (optimally three times a day) Infusion: 5-30 g per cup of water, administered at a rate of one quarter to one half cup per 10kg, divided daily (optimally three times a day) Tincture (1:2 or 1:3 in 35% alcohol): 0.5-1.5 ml per 10 kg, divided daily (optimally three times a day) and diluted or combined with other herbs
