Wart on the Head of an Older Dog

My older dog has a wart that appeared on his forehead about a year ago. I took him in to the vet to see if it was something to worry about. They said no and if I wanted it removed he would have to be put under and the price was rather high. My response was no if it wasn’t something to worry about. Should I apply something to remove it? Often he rubs it and cases it to bleed.

Warts such as these often appear on the bodies of older dogs, particularly it seems on those who have had a lifetime of eating commercial food. If you feel you might be interested in switching your dog over to a good home-made diet, please see the work of the following authors for more information and recipes: Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst.

In addition, a tincture of Thuja occidentalis (Western Red Cedar) applied externally to the wart may help reduce it’s size; some people also find that Vitamin E oil applied externally can be beneficial as well. If the wart is bleeding, you may find that a tea made of Calendula officinalis (Calendula) applied externally can speed healing. There is also another posting on this website (www.richters.com) entitled "Dog and Warts" that you may find helpful.
