Caring for Magic Carpet Thyme

Do I need to do anything to my magic carpet thyme plant to get it ready for winter. It is spring now and it has a lot of dead cover over it. Do I pull that off or does it come back to life. This is my second summer with it and I did not do anything with it year. It really took off last summer but now it looks dead on top. I just need to know if I take that off.

Thyme tends to look pretty awful first thing in the spring. I would wait and see how much looks green and healthy after a while. The brown sections can be cleared any time. As the magic carpet thyme is a spreading variety it will grow into the bare spots over the summer.
