Lavenders in San Francisco

Before ordering lavender plants, please e-mail me with advice on whether the San Francisco weather is conducive to growing lavenders outdoors. If not, are there other suitable herbs for outdoor growing in S.F.?

San Francisco is in zone 9 to 10. I think Canary Island, fernleaf, French, grosso, Spanish and Spanish grey lavenders would do well in your area. Plant them in a sunny spot and if your winters are very wet, protect the plants from most of the rain during the winter.

We plan to have the hardiness zones for most of our herbs on our web-site in the near future, so check the site periodically for this addition. You can then choose herbs that would do well in your zone.
