Survival Of Some Herbs In Zone 7 to 8

I am planning on planting parsley, chives, basil and cilantro outside. I live in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Will these herbs do well in my area? And do they come back year after year or do they only last one season? Also do they spread?

All the herbs you mentioned will do fine for you, but the parsley and cilantro may grow better if planted in half shade. None of them will spread and all but the parsley will not survive the winter. The parsley will just bolt to seed after the winter and should be treated as an annual as well.

I have some mint outside that is a brownish red color. It thrives and spreads. But what kind is it? It smells like mint but I have only seen green mint.

Unfortunately there are many cultivars of mint that turn brownish red in the sun. It most likely is a type of spearmint, since you say it smells like mint. If it smells and tastes like peppermint candy, then it may be water mint or peppermint.
