I have a large vegetable garden {100’x100’}.The chickweed that grows in it now literally takes over the garden by the middle of summer. I weed by hand and do not like to use herbicides if I can help it. The garden is along a large creek and my well is also close to the garden. Can you recommend any way to control it?

I live in 100 Mile House so of course I’m not gardening yet. My growing season is April to August if I’m really lucky. HHHEEELLLPPPP!!!!!!

Order in a big load of mulch such as wood chips, old hay (but this may contain weed seeds and may eventually just cause you to replace one weed with another!), black plastic strips and cover the plastic with straw or well-rotted manure. Apply between rows and as much around plants as possible right after planting the seed or seedlings. That way you will only have to pull what comes up near the plant stems. Make sure you weed before the weed plants go to seed!
