Bo Tree Losing Leaves

I am new to growing ficus; my 2 year old Bo Tree is very tall and leggy, I did top it off several times. Bringing it inside during the winter, it loses all it’s leaves. Is it supposed to? Should I radically top it off and when? How much water does it need? When should I feed it?

Ficus hate any change in illumination, humidity or air movement. Moving it indoors changes all three parameters drastically and the plant reacts by dropping its leaves. You would do better with the plant, if you do not move it outside for the summer. Then the only sudden change will be humidity loss when the heating system comes on in the fall. Clipping it at that time would be a good idea, because it takes some of the load off the roots. I would only move the plant out of doors when and if you have to apply insecticides -- less mess with an indoor tree, when the spray ends up somewhere other than the tree. Ficus need lots of water, so do not let them dry out completely. Feed when new leaves start to grow.
