Lavender and Pets

What is the value of using lavender with cats and dogs? Does it help calm pets? Does it repel fleas and ticks?
I do not use this herb internally with animals. I have seen it employed externally as a tea combined with other herbs for pain and itching on dogs only. The volatile oil component of this herb is too high to be used in or on cats. In addition, I would not use the essential oil of this herb (or any other) on or around animals. Remember, any herb that goes on the outside of an animal ends up inside, either through skin absorption or via ingestion.
