Dogs and Grass Answered by: Kerry Hackett Question from: Name not available Posted on: February 17, 2006
Sometimes I see my dog eating grass. Is it bad for him or not?
The grass you’ve seen your dog eating is most likely Couch grass (Agropyron repens). Most dogs and cats will eat it to help them clear their digestive tracts through vomiting or through its demulcent properties, to soothe their entire gastrointestinal and urinary systems. It also is high in vitamins and minerals and can work as a mild laxative. Interstingly, there is a growing amount of research to show that most animals will self-medicate, if given the opportunity.
