My 12year old Jack Russell has lymphoma cancer. She is not sick yet but the vet says she only has a couple of months to live. I do have her on vitamin E, C, and garlic. I’m not sure how much I should be giving her. She is also on a steroid medication. She weighs about 13 or 14 pounds.
First and foremost you might want to look at strengthening your dog’s general health. One of the best ways of doing this is to put your dog onto a good, homemade diet. Recipe resources can be found in the following books: Richard Pitcairn’s "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst. Vitamin C can be given in doses of 500 mg twice a day for every 15 pounds of body weight. If by chance your dog develops loose stools from the vitamin C, cut down until stools become a better consistency, gradually working back to the dose listed above. Vitamin E is typically dosed at 50 iu per day along with 10 mcg of selenium. Garlic is usually given at 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per pound of food consumed per day. Avoid all toxins including those in commercial foods, tap water, cigarette smoke, non-organic meats and try to keep your dog away from the television set as well as the computer. Beyond the ideas listed above, it would be best for you to work one on one with a qualified professional who works with both herbs and animals. This is a very complicated case and one, unfortunately beyond the scope of this forum.
