Equine Fly Spray Answered by: Kerry Hackett Question from: Dana Walker Posted on: April 19, 2006
Do you have a recipe for a herbal fly spray that works?
No fly spray works 100% of the time. However, things to try might be: make sure your horse has it’s full mane and tail to knock flies out of the way. Next, some have found relief by massaging a strong wine vinegar into the horse’s hooves and fetlocks twice a day. Lastly, you may be able to keep flies away from horses whilst in the barn by hanging bunches of Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Elecampane (Inula helenium), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and Sage (Salvia officinalis). I suspect you might also be able to make a spray of a strong infused tea of Rosemary, Sage and Chamomile, just keep the spray away from the horse’s eyes.
