| | | Anise for Hyperactivity? Answered by: Kerry Hackett Question from: Name not available. Posted on: June 29, 2006
Can anise calm down a hyper dog?
I have not heard of anise being used for this purpose. My first question would be: why is your dog hyper? Many commercial foods can have an affect on behaviour. Please see the work of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information regarding the benefits of homemade foods as well as recipes. Is there another reason your dog could be hyper? Stress in the home? Another animal in the house or in the neighbourhood? Does you dog receive ample exercise? herbs typically involved in relaxing the nervous system are: Oatstraw, Skullcap, Catnep, Passionflower and Valerian. However, I would caution that these are gfor short-term use only. It is most important that the cause of the hyperactivity be assessed first, especially in case it is masking another condition.
