Jack Russell and Bad Breath Answered by: Kerry Hackett Question from: Vale Clark Posted on: October 30, 2006
Audrey, our 10 year-old Jack Russell terrier, has horrible breath. We’ve tried different breath fresheners, the kind you add to the dog’s drinking water and we even had her checked by a vet a few months ago, in thoughts that it may be her teeth that were causing the problem. She had her teeth cleaned and one tooth extracted but her breath was as bad as ever afterwards. What can we do?
Given the problem is not connected to her dental health, another possibility is the integrity of her digestive system. Therefore the first place to begin is to look at diet. Please see the work of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information on this very important subject.
