Fresh Garlic and Dog Food Answered by: Kerry Hackett Question from: Gunter Faber Posted on: April 14, 2007
Can I add fresh Garlic finely chopped to my dog’s food?
Average doses of fresh, finely chopped garlic are one-eighth to one-quarter teaspoon per pound of food fed once a day (mixed into your dog’s food). However, there are opinions that link excessive use of garlic in long term situations leading to a condition called Heinz-body anaemia. If you remember to use garlic in moderation, this should not be a problem. You may also want to look at only using garlic in your dog’s food three to four days a week at the amount indicated above just to be on the safe side.
